Greetings dear readers and welcome to Numinous Magic: A Sorcerer's Observations!
In this blog, I will be discussing all things to do with witches, sorcerers and all things magical in the real world of Wiccans and Neo-Pagans, as well as the world of myth, both modern and of times past.
"But why the 'world of myth'?" asked one friend as I discussed the idea of this project to. In this young man's mind, the mythological implications of the Arts--from Circe of The Odyssey all the way to Harry Potter--were mere fantasy. They are old wives' tales to abate fears of the unknown as well as commercialized movies aiming to make money. They have nothing to do with going into the Circle on Beltane to pay homage to the Holy Mother.
I disagree. Forgive me for being preachy here, but I have always felt that the stories of the witches were just as important as the witches themselves. Whether we go through the Russian Birch forests of Baba Yaga, join Medea on the Argo or even rule Miss Robichaux's academy with Fiona Goode; these stories are part of the witch culture and deserve proper recognition. As the folklore of witches and magicians crosses into every culture, it serves to unite us; whether we be Gardnerian Wiccans, Irish Druids, Voodoo Witch-Doctors, Hermetic Wizards or even ordinary people with a touch of psychic ability. And these stories also reveal a lot about the very tribe we so often wax romantically over.
Having been involved in the craft for over ten years, mostly as a solitary, I have been blessed with a myriad of experiences and an even larger cache of lore upon the subject. I do not claim to be some eldritch Archmage with a slew of arcane titles nor a master magician possessing the secrets to infinite powers; but I know much more than I let on and wish to share my understanding with the world at large.
Too often, I see Pagans like myself make all the wrong assumptions about their very faith and practices, much to my chagrin. I wish to hopefully clear the air on several of these issues as well as, hopefully, promote my own dreams indirectly.
Until then, I hope to slowly build an audience and continue blogging post-haste.
Have a Magical Day.
Blessed Be!
